What are European pallet deliveries?

Getting a pallet across town or across the country is fairly simple. Any domestic transport operator can load it into a lorry and drive it directly to your destination. But is that the most cost-effective way? Probably not. When you work with Hallam Express, we’re connected to a vast network of other operators. We handle any kind of delivery, whether domestic or European pallet deliveries. We do this through our partners, The Pallet Network (TPN).

Traditional deliveries from point A to point B are just not efficient anymore. You’re wasting fuel and hurting the environment. New methods like the hub and spoke are better. And that’s what we use. Your pallet is collected and taken to a central hub for processing. From there, another expert local transport company (one of over 100 in the network) takes the pallet for that last leg. It saves so much fuel as companies stay in their territories and don’t cross paths. And you know you’re working with a trusted network since TPN was awarded pallet network of the year for 2019. Your consignment is in safe hands.

The model works the same for European deliveries. Your consignment is moved from hub to hub until it is loaded on a lorry for final transport in your destination country. All the while, you can track its progress via the TPN Connect portal. TPN Connect is a one-stop-shop for new orders, tracking and signed for confirmation. You can manage it all from one place. That’s convenient and easy.

Benefits of The Pallet Network

TPN is a massive network of over 100 operators and nearly 130 depots. All members use the same system, TPN Connect. This means every single operator is held to the same high standards we are. Hallam Express has decades of combined transit industry experience, so we understand the importance of KPIs. We’re proud to be part of an organisation awarded best pallet network in 2019. It’s just a small amount of recognition for the dedication and service all members put into providing superior transport options.

How do you prepare a pallet for delivery?

First, you’ll need to know the dimensions of your consignment. All pallets we use are 1.2m by 1.2m at the base. Your only variable is the height which can range from .6m to 2.2m. We allow several service options, too. These include:

● Full load transport – we can offer significant savings on return transport journeys
● Groupage transport – we can combine several separate consignments travelling to the same destination for reduced fares
● Part-load export – we can store goods domestically and consolidate consignments for export

Once you’ve uploaded your measurements and received your booking confirmation, you’ll need to wrap the pallets up for shipment. You can use strapping or plastic wrapping for this. If you need assistance, we can help you for a small fee. Our driver will arrive to pick up these wrapped parcels during your collection window. Your pallets will be loaded onto the curtain side lorry via the built-in tail lifts. You can then watch it in transit from your location to the central hub via the TPN Connect portal. Once at the hub, it will be loaded on another lorry bound for its destination postcode.

What happens on delivery?

We operate a kerbside delivery for all pallets. This means your goods are delivered to the nearest flat and hard surface at the destination address. We’ll never leave a parcel on unsteady gravel or behind a locked gate. Your recipient will sign for the parcel and take over ownership of the consignment from that point.

What if my pallet is oversized?

We have special services for oversized freight. Our partner, TPN offers TPN XL – a dedicated, capacity-managed service for unusual or bulky palletised freight. Innovatively, they have a two-phase system for freight. Standard palletised freight is handled at night and bulky freight is handed during the day by a dedicated team. This gives it the expertise it requires to deliver it within pre-arranged windows.
